I think the name of this particular costume is "Hana" but I'm really not sure.
Anyway, on to the meat! This costume is supposed to be many layers of kimonos, but just shorter, tied with an obi. I know that if I were to make it like that (red kimono over black/silver kimono over purple) it wouldn't stay closed or have the right shape at all. What I did was shorten and alter a (very inaccurate) kimono pattern. The skirt portions were self-drafted.
The skirt was a bit difficult since the layers in the front look loose, but they can't be since I don't wanna flash everyone. A few well-placed stitches fixed that problem.
The costume wears very well. I do have to keep pulling down the kimono portion though so it would sit correctly. I can't lift my arms very high without needing to readjust the top. The shoes do get painful after a few hours, but they're beautiful, so it's ok. It's a very easy cosplay to strut in!
Materials used
Red and black fabric- Kona cotton
Purple- Gauze fabric
Gold- Don't remember, but it's a synthetic. Lustrous on one side and soft and fuzzy on the other.
